July 2012 Fireworks!!

This year no one in Duncan wanted to step up and sponsor a fireworks display, so we are a town without fireworks. When I was growing up they always had a display at the country club. Our house was just a mile north, so we would sit on our front porch and watch the fireworks. It was a very special time. One year we decided to go closer, so we were sitting on the lawn of the First United Methodist Church. The fireworks had just ended when we heard this strange noise. We looked around and the automatic sprinklers had come on. We had to make a run for it.
We heard there was going to be a display in Elmore City on Sunday evening, July 1st. We grabbed some of our biker friends and headed out.

Along the way I saw this flag flying.

We had a good ride over to Elmore City Lake.  I didn't know they had a lake and it is real close to town, like 4 blocks away.

These are some of our friends, Carla, Larry, Twana, and Doug.
We arrived quite a bit early, but that was ok. We got free hotdogs and music. The music was a very interesting mix, there was everything from children's choir, youth choir, old time gospel and some music I actually knew. We found a shade tree and did what we do best, eat and visit.

There weren't a lot of shade trees, so we had to share with people. The people behind us had a big group and had brought all kinds of snacks. They shared some very good cookies with us. When it was getting close to dark, we decided to walk back up where we had parked the bikes, so we could beat the crowd out. And there was a big crowd. Finally the fireworks started and it was worth the wait. We could see them reflecting off the lake and hear the music.

What a wonderful way to celebrate our independence.

Until next time! Happy 4th of July
