Ride with Friends

When I was getting my nails done this week. Melissa mentioned that Jason and she are planning a ride on Sunday for the bikers in their church, she invited Keith and I to come along. So in the biker way I invited Larry and Carla.
When we arrived at the meeting place the only people there were Jason and Melissa. Come to find out the pastor had failed to mention the ride at church the last two weeks, it was in the bulletin. Sometimes people need it mentioned out loud so they will rememberr it.
Here come Larry and Carla, it looks like the the ride will be a small group. That's ok, any excuse to ride.

We head out and Jason wants Keith to take the lead, he's afraid he will speed if he is in the lead. We are going to Medicine Park to Chap's my A##.
Then we decide since we are so close to THE Mountain (Mount Scott) we might as well drive to the top.

I guess I'm crazy I love curvy mountain roads.

Jason being his silly self, he didn't think I would actually take the picture. We weren't the only ones who thought a ride to the top of the mountain would be fun. It was real busy, I didn't think we were going to find a spot so we could take pictures.

We drove through the wildlife refuge and ended up at "Backporch Drafthouse". We had a great time today, riding, laughing and eating.

Thank you Jason and Melissa for planning the ride today and inviting us.

Smokin Joes in Rush Springs???

This week we heard that Smokin Joes opened a restaurant in Rush Springs. So we decided it might be worth a try. We were sitting at the Sonic for half priced shakes after 8, with Larry and Carla when we decided to give it a try. Let's go Friday night.
I texted our friends in Duncan, then thought the OKC gang might like to join is. It's a bit of a drive for them but the weather has been perfect for riding.
When we got ready to leave Duncan there were 10 people and 13 were coming from the OKC area. Doug told me his son had stopped by there this afternoon and they had no water. They were waiting on a part to fix it. Larry had heard the place would seat 50. At this point I started to panic!!! I did the what ifs, What if there is no water? What if no one can use the bathroom? What if they run out of food? What if they are very busy? What if there aren't enough seats for every one to sit?
The Duncan group arrived first. We decided to go check out the place. It is pretty busy and I panic again! Oh My! I hope we can all find a seat. Then I take a breath and remember the sign I have seen at Mutt's Amazing Hot Dogs, "place your order we promise you will have a seat by the time your food arrives" so we do just that. I sort of become the hostess/seat finder. I watched to see where people were getting up and helped our gang and the other patrons find seats.  We were all over the restaurant but we all had a seat.

I saw ribs, brisket, rib eye, okra, Texas toast and lots of it. The food is as good as the Smokin Joes in Davis. Before we go outside to take pictures I need to make a pit stop and wash my hands, since I ate ribs. The bathroom is decorated so cute and the sink is amazing.

When we were out taking pictures someone suggested we go to Chickasha to the Dairy Queen for dessert. I might be ready for dessert by then.

Mom and Dad had followed us in the car so they decided to head back to Duncan, no telling how late the crazy kids will stay out.
We head up Highway 81 to Chickasha. Next thing I know here come Chuck and Diane zooming past all the bikes. I told Keith I bet Diane is going to take pictures as we pass them. So as we passed them we waved for the picture.

Larry led the pack to Chickasha. It wasn't long until we were eating dip cones, dilly bars, and waffle bowls. There was more laughing, and joking. We always have such a great time with this group of people. Also this night all the guys had to look over Doug's new bike. It is one of the new 2014's. Guys can look for hours, just look at bikes.

All too soon it was time to say see ya next time.

2nd annual Hog Feast

Day one
Who would have thought it, we have a drought in Oklahoma and the weather forecast for this weekend is rain and storms. Last year the decision was made to hold this rally the second weekend in June. A year out, who knows what the weather will be. God knows.
We go out to the rally site on Friday evening, because Mom is having a booth for her Mary Kay. We want to see the site and put up the tent. We get the popup up and the Oklahoma wind is howling, so we take it down and decide to put it up in the morning.  It turned out to be a good thing, for it rained in the night.

Day two
Saturday morning we get up and head to the rally site. We get Mom all settled, have a breakfast burrito, and go to the front to meet our friends. We are meeting Carla & Larry, Karen & Shane, and Twanna & Doug. When we see Karen & Shane, they let us know Loren is coming, and that he is on the way. Then arrives Larry, but where is Carla? Come to find out she woke up with a sick headache, so he will be riding solo today. It is 9:00 am and we are getting ready to leave...where is  Loren and where are Twanna & Doug?
Loren in still on his way. I text Twanna and let her know we are by the registration building. I get a text back "we just woke up. Have a good time. Be safe". While we are waiting on Loren, we are talking to Vici Beth and she says "these guys(meaning us) know the roads. You can ride with them" and that was how we met our new friends from Minnesota, Darrel & Bruce. I had some shirts made for Mom since she had a Mary Kay booth. Pink shirts with huge lettering on the back. The mens said "real men wear pink"  and the girls said "my man wears pink". Darrell sees Keith's shirt and offers to buy it off him. When I walk over Keith tells me and I tell him that we will just give it to him. I also have one I got for Dave, but since he didn't make it over,  if he can wear it he can have it.
Since we are STILL waiting on Loren, Darrell & Bruce decide to go take a look at the vendors to see what is there. Loren gets here and Keith goes to get Darrell & Bruce. Finally, we are ready to head out.

It is a perfect morning. We have 6 bikes in our group. First stop, Wind River Harley Davidson.

As we are driving to Lawton, I notice the water in the buzz strips on the side of the roads. That is a wonderful site, we need water so bad.

We take a break and get some water, it is getting very toasty.

Our new friend Bruce

Our new friend Darrell
This is an oops!!! Not sure how I got this picture.  Or what it is supposed to be a picture of!

Next stop, Walters. We get to Walters, where the stop is at the Sonic. When we walk up, someone tells us the 44oz cokes are 99 cents.
So I ask is it a Coke or an Oklahoma coke?
You know in Oklahoma we say "do you want a coke?"
If they answer yes
Next question, what kind?

No one knew the answer so I just ordered a 44oz coca cola and some cheddar peppers.  Come to find out, it was 99 cent soda. Any kind.

A couple of our group get gas at the station next door and we are ready to head out once again

We are now headed to Waurika.
When we get to the truck stop in Waurika, we decide to go back to the rally site for our last card, and then go to Bob's to eat catfish.  Bruce has never had catfish.
By the time we make it back to the rally site Carla is feeling better, so she is going to meet us at Bob's for lunch. Darrell & Bruce decide not to eat lunch with us. Darrell has nieces that live in town, and they are going to meet up later.
Catfish and burgers are eaten, and lots and lots of tea is drank. We didn't realize just how dehydrated we really were.
Now, back to the rally. It is very hot outside, so by this time Mom is ready to take down her stuff and get into the cool.  We take down her tent and decide to take it and one of our vehicles back to the house.  At the house, we get our cooler and some soda and water. Keith changes shirts and we pick up the one I had made for Dave.
When we get back to the rally site, we see our new friends from Minnesota. Keith goes to talk to them, and takes them the 2 shirts. I'm sorry that Bruce got the hot sweaty one.  Darrell was excited to get his, and promises to wear it. All too soon it is time to eat again. I am not hungry and I feel like we just ate.  As we are waiting for the "Summer Breeze" concert, I see Vickie & Donald drive up. I am so excited because we haven't seen them in a long time.
As we are waiting for the band "Summer Breeze" to start playing we just sit and visit, or maybe NAP.

There is also a stunt bike rider performing. The sunset was a perfect back drop for the motorcycle stunts.

We are also watching the storms roll in. I start praying for the storms to go around and not hit the rally site. It rains a little bit, so the concert is delayed about 30 minutes.  The concert was wonderful. We go to church with the keyboard player, the bass player, and the drummer. We listen to the wonderful music and watch the light show God provided for us.  We decide to go home just before the concert is over.
In the middle of he night a storm hits. It rains and rains.

Day three
We are getting ready to go to church at the rally site. They are giving away a bike after the morning service. I start getting texts the service has been moved into town to the church's building. It rained a lot last night, and is still sprinkling this morning, so they decided to move the service into town. As we are eating breakfast, we think about Darrell & Bruce (how will they know the service has been moved). We go to their motel to find them and let them know where it is. As we drive up, they are walking back to their rooms from the restaurant next door. We tell them the church service has been moved into town and give directions to the church. We promise to save them a seat.
Sadly, we didn't win the bike or the gun they raffled off. But the service was wonderful  and we got to see people get baptized. The weekend was a success. After church Darrell and Bruce were going to spend time with Darrell's family that live in Duncan.
We got out about 7 to ride and saw them heading up the highway. We pulled over to talk to them, and they were headed to dinner, so we joined them. Then it was off to Sonic for half price shakes after 8:00 pm.
We had the best time this weekend, both with old friends and new friends.
Just a note: Darrell and Bruce rode 19 hours in the rain to get home on Monday.
