Memorial Day 2012

I was asked this weekend by a person from another country what is Memorial Day and what do we do to celebrate. I told them the day is to remember all the soldiers that have died to keep us free.  I would like to thank all the soldiers and their families for the sacrifices that they make so we can be free.

Memorial Day we lazed around until after lunch then decided to go to OKC. It was a beautiful day.

We have driven this road a thousand times so I decided to take the book I was finishing up. Since it  was getting hot and very humid we decided to stop and get a soda. Since I am the "B" on back I get to drink and read.

I finished my book so I started taking random pictures. Isn't it neat how Keith's helmet reflects the clouds.
We had a great day. Stopped at the harley shop, went to see our son at work, then decided to grab a bite of dinner. When we finished dinner and were going to start home we decided to look at the weather ap on my phone. Thank God for smart phones. There were storms in the south of the state. They were building up fast. I just knew we were going to get wet.
We decided to make a run for home (79 short miles) and just keep an eye on the weather. When we got about 14 miles from Duncan we stopped to put on our rain jackets. It wasn't raining yet but...it wasn't looking good.
I just knew we were going to get soaked. I said a quick prayer God please let us get home before the hail starts.
We pulled in the driveway. Jumped off the bike. Got the bike under the carport. The hail started. God is so good. The hail just lasted a couple of minutes then this beautiful show appeared in the sky.

Friday Night Ride

5/18/2012
OOOOOOklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plain. Well the song is right, it was very windy when we left Duncan on Friday afternoon.

We were riding up to Oklahoma City to meet some friends for dinner. We decided not to take the interstate since it was so windy.
We saw hay fields that were waiting to be baled.

Wheat fields waiting to be harvested

Then came the Visual Pollution!!! Can you believe that is even a term we have now?

After a very windy ride we arrived at the restaurant they had chosen for this FNDR. Keith and I had never eaten here but we will go back it was wonderful food and very clean.

They have breakfast food, Chinese, and Vietnamese. Next time I am going to try the Pho ( noodle soup) or the make your own spring rolls. We met with 8 friends and a couple of grand kids. Had a wonderful visit. It is always fun to get to know new people.
After everyone went their own ways Keith and I got a wild hair and decided to go and find the waffle truck. We had seen an article in the newspaper and wanted to try out their waffles. You have to follow them on Facebook to find out where they are going to be. They have 3 savory and 3 sweet waffles and the menu changes every month. Since we had such a wonderful dinner we decided to get a sweet one. We got in the long line and waited. Had a wonderful visit with the people behind us. Turned out they rode bikes as well and she had just gotten her "M" endorsement. (Not for me remember I am the B on back) We placed our order and the couple behind us placed theirs and then......the waffles were sold out. Boy was I glad we got in line when we did. The waffle was worth the wait.

By this time it was time to start the windy ride home. We went down the new I40 and beside the Scissortail Fly Catcher.

An awesome sight after dark.
The ride home was uneventful except for the truck that didn't want to drive the speed limit and tried to make us a hood ornament.

5/12/12-Today started out drizzly. We were eating our breakfast when we had a phone call. Mom and Dad wanted to go with us to Crawds and Rods the more the merrier. As we were riding to the big town of Elgin OK. Keith decided we should go down "Trail Road" it was a VERY wise choice. About halfway to Elgin we looked to the east and  it looked like the rain was coming down in sheets. We were very dry on our road a very wise choice. We made it to Elgin and waited for our friends Scott and Leah to drive in from Mount Scott.
This was what the sky look like when we got to Crawds & Rods. Sort of scary but it really was not cold and we had a great time looking at the neat Rods.

Not exactly a Rod but cool none the less.

reminds me of one from high school

this Nek Braker was way cool

Keith liked this one (notice the decal)

Now for the CRAWDS!!!!

This was a great day. It was overcast but it did warm up this afternoon when we were watching the Burn Out. We had a wonderful time with Mom and Dad and our friends Scott and Leah.
